They read your story
Before your coach ever says hello, they've read every answer in your questionnaire — your goals, your schedule, your life.
Our why
A letter from our founder
I grew up in this sport with a coach and teammates always within earshot — someone who noticed when I showed up, kept me honest when I didn't, and made the hard days fun. Back then, the technology was a stopwatch.
Then life did what life does. School ended, the structure vanished, and — like almost every runner — I never had a coach again. In the years since, I've lived both sides of this sport: seasons where I felt unstoppable, and long stretches where training took a backseat to everything else and my fitness quietly slipped away. If you've been there, you know it doesn't happen all at once. It just happens.
Over those same thirty years, the tools became incredible. GPS watches. Training apps. Fitness scores, recovery metrics, and now AI-generated plans. I've used them all — and the more the technology promised, the clearer it became what it can't do. It can't notice you. It can't know you. It can't care.
What finally changed things for me wasn't a better app. It was having a person in my corner again — someone reading my training, asking how it felt, and adjusting the plan to my actual life. I've sat on the athlete's side of that relationship as an adult, and it changed how I run. It's the reason this company exists.
So we built The Marathons upside down. The stats are all still here — mileage, paces, heart rate, trends — but they work backstage, for your coach. What's up front is the conversation: a relationship with someone who cares about your success, and about improving you not only as an athlete, but as an individual.
Because life gets busy and complicated. The drive to perform your best — or even just hold on to basic fitness — can start to feel overwhelming and end up taking a backseat. That's not a character flaw; that's being human. You deserve a partner who works with you to be your best and understands when life happens — a coach who adjusts the plan instead of judging the gap, and helps you keep showing up through every season of life.
See you out there!
Our coaches
Every coach on The Marathons sees coaching the way we do. The data informs them — it never replaces them.
Before your coach ever says hello, they've read every answer in your questionnaire — your goals, your schedule, your life.
Not a weekly summary — every run, as it lands. Expect a check-in, not a chart.
Not just how fast you went. A coach who'd rather understand your week than quote your training load.
